Jiří Janků
Jiří Janků is a Czech dramaturge, playwright, and translator. He began his professional career during his studies at the Petr Bezruč Theatre in Ostrava, and in 1994, he became a co-founder of the CD 94 Theatre Association. As a dramaturge for Czech Television, his work included the program Úsměvy (Smiles).
A significant part of his work involves a long-standing creative partnership with director Petr Svojtka. They worked together at the Central Bohemian Theatre in Kladno and later at the Prague City Theatres, where they co-authored several plays, including Superhuman (Superčlověk), V+W Revue, and The Sixties (60’s aneb Šedesátky). He currently serves as a dramaturge at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec. In 2022, alongside director Šimon Dominik, he received three awards at the GRAND Festival of Laughter for the cabaret Semafor: the Expert Jury Prize, the 2021 Audience Comedy Award, and the 2021 Comedy of the Year Award.
