Michal Dočekal

Michal Dočekal is a Czech theatre director who has been one of the most prominent figures of Czech drama for more than three decades. He graduated in directing from DAMU and made a significant mark as the Artistic Director of the Drama Company of the National Theatre in Prague (2002–2015), where he shaped a modern interpretation of the classical repertoire. He also worked with Divadelní spolek Kašpar and contributed to redefining the artistic profile of Prague’s Divadlo Komedie. He later served as Artistic Director of the Prague City Theatres and has collaborated with numerous Czech and international stages. His productions are highly regarded for their precise work with actors, strong atmosphere, and the ability to reinterpret classical works without resorting to superficial effects.
