Tomáš Kypta
Born in Pilsen, Tomáš Kypta began his career as a stagehand at the Realistické divadlo; today, he designs costumes for leading stages from Prague to Bremerhaven, Germany. His costumes are more than just clothing—they are the key to a character's soul, whether in gritty drama, grand opera, or musical theatre.
Freelancing since 1990, his signature style can be found in hundreds of productions across the entire country. Ostrava represents a significant chapter in his career. At the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, he designed the visual identity for numerous hits, from the stylish musical Sunset Boulevard to operettas like Countess Maritza. He brought a unique world of puppets and fantasy to life at the Ostrava Puppet Theatre, designing costumes for the legendary Kocourek Modroočko and the production Stříhali dohola Josefa Kainara. In Ostrava, his work can also be seen at Theatre Mír in productions such as A Flea in Her Ear and The Kidney. Kypta's talent has also been recognized abroad—he completed a record 25 productions in Bremerhaven, Germany, and received a nomination for the prestigious Slovak DOSKY Award for his designs for The Seagull (directed by David Drábek).
