LISOVA

OSDC Dance Theater

LISOVA is a contemporary ballet performance by OSDC Dance Company, based on Lesia Ukrainka's drama-fairy tale The Forest Song.

At the heart of the story is the forbidden love between Mavka, a forest spirit, and Lukash, a human — a love that was doomed from the start. The forest lives by its own rules, and the human who breaks them changes everything: himself, and those he meets along the way.

The choreography stands apart for its unconventional approach: forest creatures do not move like humans — their physicality is fantastical and unlike anything else. Ensemble scenes become a living, thinking set, with each character distinctly individual yet woven into a unified aesthetic. The performance combines contemporary choreography, original costumes and set design, 3D effects, and animated projection. The sound design draws on the style of mystic deep house.

The Forest Song is considered the first Ukrainian fantasy work. In OSDC's production, the ancient and the contemporary come together — through dance, image, and sound.
