Tomáš Ondřej Pilař

Tomáš Ondřej Pilař is a renowned opera director and stage designer. He studied opera directing at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. From 2014 to 2020, he headed the opera of the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, directing works like Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Honegger's Joan of Arc at the Stake. Since 2020, he has been the artistic director of the South Bohemian Theatre Opera. During his career, he has created over 60 of his own productions. On the domestic stage, he drew attention with his direction of Carmen and La Gioconda at the Janáček Theatre in Brno. He regularly guest-directs abroad, with productions in San Remo and Chieti in Italy, Yekaterinburg in Russia, and the prestigious Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth. Besides traditional theatres, he frequently creates open-air and site-specific projects and actively lectures. Audiences easily recognize his productions by their dominant visual style, detailed lighting design, precise tempo-rhythm, and deeper spiritual reach.
